Sourcing in Ethiopia

Ethiopia is the most significant chickpea origin in East Africa by a wide margin, producing both Kabuli and Desi types across the highlands of Amhara and Oromia. It is also a long-standing supplier of white pea beans — the navy bean type grown in the Central Rift Valley — into European and regional canning and processing markets, alongside red kidney and other haricot types.

The main harvest follows the Meher rains and comes to market from late in the calendar year.
