Türkiye has a well-developed pulse processing and packing sector that both serves domestic consumption and re-exports into the Middle East, North Africa and Europe. Chickpeas are the central line, with beans and other pulses traded alongside them.
Turkish processors are technically demanding buyers. Calibrated size, colour uniformity and low defect percentages matter because the product is going into branded retail packs or into further processing, not into bulk milling.
For an East African origin the practical question is whether the size band and colour of the crop in a given season match what Turkish packers need. That is a season-by-season answer, not a standing one.

- Calibrated size is central
- Chickpea buyers work to defined size bands. An offer without a size band is difficult for a Turkish packer to evaluate.
- Colour sorting is usually assumed
- Retail-facing packers normally expect an optically sorted product. Quote machine-cleaned grades explicitly if that is what is being offered.
- Onward re-export
- Where product is re-exported after processing, origin documentation may need to satisfy the requirements of the eventual destination as well as of Türkiye.
