Mung beans differ from most pulses in that size is a contracted parameter alongside quality. An enquiry that states purity, moisture and defect tolerances but omits the size band has left out the single factor buyers ask about first, and it cannot be priced accurately.
Size bands
Size is expressed as a screen dimension in millimetres — commonly 3.0 mm and above, 3.2 mm and above, or 3.5 mm and above. Larger bands attract a premium, both because larger beans are preferred and because a smaller proportion of any crop qualifies for them.
Which bands a season yields depends on how well the crop filled. A good finishing season produces more of the larger bands; a stressed one produces fewer. Availability by band is therefore confirmed against the current crop rather than published as a standing figure.
Parameters that need explicit agreement

- Cleaning level: machine cleaned or Sortex, and at what sorting intensity.
- Crop year, and whether new crop only is required.
- Colour expectation, ideally against an approved sample.
